Case Study

Public Order Safety, Strategy and Tactics

HQNI (as was) wanted to address two needs - firstly to reduce casualties in training for Public Order, which were running at up to 10% of troops going through training prior to deployment, then as a follow on project, the capture all the tactic experience of Public Order in Northen Ireland in teh run up to demilitarisation.

Argo Media worked with HQNI on the safety project, which was described by the GOC NI as "A major win", in that training casualties declined to 2-3%. Then follow-on tactics project captured operational scenarios including taking a junction, the "man down procedure" and "actions on".

Argo worked in a very hazardous environment, staging full-blown Public Order exercises at night complete with petrol bombs, rioters pelting troops with missiles and fast moving vehicles in confined spaces, working closely with MTA's to develop scenarios suitable to show the same action to capture the ptocesses clearly.
